In the early morning hours on February 25, our sweet Mom, Grams, Great-Grandma, Aunt made her way to heaven. We cherish every moment of the time we got to spend with her.
Ella Woltermann Holten was born in Columbus, Mont., on May 21, 1923, to Gerhard and Helena Woltermann. She grew up on a farm north of Columbus and attended grade school at the Lone Tree Country School. She attended and graduated from Columbus High School in 1940.
She married Philip Holten on Oct. 24, 1942. She then went to work at the ACM office in Columbus while Dad was on the European front fighting in World War II. When Dad returned home, they made their home at the Mouat Mine. In 1948, they moved to Columbus where they lived for the next 70 years. Four children were born to this union — Jeanne Masterson, Larry (Mary) Holten, Dianne LaFever, and Dennis (Janelle) Holten.
Mom enjoyed bowling in her younger years and always enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She loved her garden and always had flowers blooming in the yard and on the deck during the summer months. Following her grandchildren to different sporting events was important to her. She loved every minute of being a gym rat. She especially treasured the lifelong friendship of Vi Ekle. They both enjoyed dancing. There was never a visit where they didn’t have a few giggles and maybe a tear or two were shared a few times over the years. We are truly grateful to Vi for her friendship with Mom. Thank you, Vi.
Mom went to work at Git’s Motel after her children were out of school. She continued doing laundry at the motel and finally retired at the ripe old age of 87. She was very independent and lived alone for the last several years after Dad passed away. She was still driving in October of this last year.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Philip, her brothers, August, Herman, Henry, Fred, Ben, Git and Art Woltermann; her sisters, Anna, Agnes and Helen Fagan; Her sons-in-law Neal LaFever and Bob Masterson and grandson Tim Masterson.
She is survived by her children; her grandchildren Tom (Vee) and Terry (Tami) Masterson, Dena Smith, Alison LaFever, Cori LaFever (Kyle), Dana Holten (Jeremiah), Kimberly Frazee (Stephen), Philip Holten; and great-grandchildren TJ and Alex Masterson, JJ Unger, Madison Pulver and her namesake Ella Frazee. Numerous nieces and nephews survive her.
Mom was happiest when surrounded by family. She loved the jokes and laughter that was bound to happen when we were all together. We will miss you Mom. Rest in peace. YOU DONE GOOD!
