Lisa Rehan Smith, a former resident of Stillwater County, passed away Dec. 31, 2017, after a sudden and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Lisa was born on Jan. 26, 1964, to David and Lillian Hopkins. She graduated from Garden City High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Hope College in Holland, Mich.
Lisa’s humor, compassion, and overall goodness brightened all communities where she lived and people she encountered.
Lisa married Christopher Scott Smith in 1990. They raised their three children in Northern Michigan and Montana. Lisa returned home to Michigan in 2017.
Lisa enjoyed a career in human resources, working in the automotive, hospitality, and health-care industries. Her Catholic faith was an integral part of her life and was evident in the way she lived.
Lisa is survived by her daughters Ashley (Nate) Kavanagh of Boston, Melissa Smith of Brighton, Mich.; son Marshall Smith of Portland, Ore.; her mother Lillian Hopkins of Brighton, Mich.; sister Colleen (Dan) Bussey; nieces Breanna and Delaney, and nephew David Bussey, of Brighton, Mich., and niece Mika Bussey of Chicago. She is preceded in death by her father David Hopkins.
The funeral will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brighton on Jan. 4 at 10:30 a.m.
