Absarokee woman seriously injured in crash, investigation pending

An elderly Absarokee woman was seriously injured Sunday night in a single vehicle roll-over on Nye Road shortly after 7 p.m.
The woman was driving her SUV eastbound on the Nye Road, 1.5 miles north of Fishtail, when for an unknown reason, she went off the left side of the road, through a fence, through a herd of sheep and finally into decorative rock and a tree, said Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Bill Bullock.
The SUV rolled 1 3/4 times after hitting the tree, trapping the woman inside. She was extricated, taken to the Stillwater Billings Clinic by ambulance and then flown to a Billings hospital by HelpFlight. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
Bullock said speed and alcohol were both factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
In addition to MHP, deputies, the Absarokee ambulance and Columbus Fire Rescue responded. The crash was reported through a 911 call made by a passing motorist.
