Stillwater River Rd. to remain closed
The Stillwater River Road rock slide area remains hazardous as several wet spots on rocks indicate a “high potential” for future issues, according to engineers monitoring the scene.
The road will remain closed until the green light is given by the engineers. Until that time, safety will be the primary concern.
The slide occurred June 3 around 7:30 a.m and is believed to have been caused by moisture from heavy rainstorms seeping behind wedges that were holding large sections of rock together.
One home was evacuated, with officials recommending the evacuations of two others.
The slide occurred just upriver from the Midnight Canyon Bridge, and came down into the Stillwater River with enough force to push water up into the yard of a home on the opposite of the river.
Phone service was knocked out in the Midnight Canyon area temporarily.
