Taste for mutton spells the end for bear

A black bear believed responsible for killing a number of sheep between Fishtail and Nye was trapped and euthanized last week.
State Fish, Wildlife & Parks Game Warden Paul Luepke said a trap was set late last week and the offending bruin was caught.
Last Tuesday, May 9, a Grove Creek Road resident in Fishtail called the Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office to report a bear had killed some of his sheep within the previous few days, including one just the night before. He requested to speak with the game warden.
Wildlife Services, which is now under the Department of Agriculture and based in Billings, is responsible for killing any bears that kill livestock, said Luepke.
Further information from Wildlife Services was not available by press time.
