Bonnie (Richardson) Preikszas, 101, died on July 4, 2015. Bonnie was born Feb. 25, 1914, to F.H. and Glen (Mainwaring) Richardson on a homestead near Acton, Mont.
The family moved to Silesia and then Columbus, where she graduated in 1931 as class valedictorian. She continued her education at Montana State Normal School and taught primary grades in Lincoln and Belfry, Mont.
She worked as a meteorological aide for the National Weather Services for many years in Billings and then Great Falls. She married Otto J. Preikszas in 1963. They lived in Augusta, Ga., Anchorage, Alaska, and Silver Springs, Md., before retiring to Laurel.
Bonnie served on the Board of Adjustments for Laurel, and the Laurel Public Library Board when the current library was built. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Montana Historical Society, Audubon Society, and Unity Garden Club.
Bonnie was an avid reader, her passion being history. She traveled throughout the U.S. as well as to Germany, Greece, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Panama, and the Caribbean.
She is survived by her stepson Otto J. (Mary) Preikszas Jr., and grandchildren Otto J. (Sabrina) Preikszas III, David (Lisa) Preikszas, Karen (Richard) Kelleher and five great grandchildren; nieces Bonnie Ann Hopp and Jill Bowers, nephew Joel Bowers, and 16 great nieces and nephews. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, brother Don Richardson, sister, Roberta Bowers, nephews Robert Richardson and James Bowers, and niece Gayle Hauge.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 9 at 10 a.m. at the Laurel Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting smithfuneralchapels.com
