Mary quietly and painlessly passed away Monday morning after less than a day in the hospital. She was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Columbus, to Fannie and Edward Nichol, raised at the Nichol Ranch on the lower Stillwater where she attended grade school at Lower Whitebird School, and graduated from Columbus High in 1947.
She briefly worked in Billings before returning to the ranch until she married Art Arnold in December, 1957. She made a home thereafter on the West Rosebud for Art and her three children, Billy (Deb), Chris (Sherri), and Kim (Jason). She was preceded in death by her husband Art, sister Mick Bolen, brother Jack Nichol, niece Shirley Lawrence, great nieces Janice Thompson and Kelley Lawrence. She is survived by her three children, her grandsons Weston, Clayton, Trenton, her sister Pauline Hartman, plus numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in laws.
Mom was a woman of few words, but, when she said “We’ll see,” it usually meant “It ain’t gonna happen!” She died of a broken heart, lonely for Dad, she moved on in her own quiet way.
We love her, and miss her deeply already....
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal;
Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Rosebud Cemetery, with another get together at Legends afterwards.
