James (Jim) Alden Veik was accepted into heaven with family by his side on Sept. 21, 2015. Jim was born on Dec. 20, 1934 to John and Johanna Veik of Humphrey, Neb. He was the eighth child of 11 children. The family moved to Riverside, Calif., in 1948 and he graduated from Poly High School in 1952.
Jim met and married Ellen Bricker on Oct. 9, 1954. Together, they had three sons; Dan, Ron and Scott.
Throughout Jim’s life he held several jobs, but the one he loved the most was with the Riverside Fire Department from which he retired as captain after 32 years of service.
After retirement, Jim and Ellen moved to Absarokee, Mont. In Montana, he enjoyed hunting and working outdoors as he did in his childhood. He also enjoyed his daily trips into town for coffee.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Wilma and Lois; and two brothers, Richard and Bud. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Ellen; three sons, Daniel (Rondi), Ronald (Anita), and Scott (Margit); seven grandchildren, Krissy (Ross), Amy (Tyler), Eric, Anthony (Heather), Derrick, Aaron (Marissa), and Neil; six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Mason, Nyah, Lincoln, Alec, and Kara; his siblings, Ray (Arlene), Larry (Linda), Lloyd (Donna), Lester, Jean, and Elaine (Bob); and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends.
Jim’s life will be celebrated on Oct.10 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Absarokee, Mont., at 10 a.m. A reception at the church will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Absarokee Cancer Support Group.
