Scout netters end Husky streak

Absarokee’s conference winning streak ended in the last match of the season, as the Scouts defeated the visiting Huskies on Oct. 24 in Bridger, 16-25, 14-25, 26-24, 25-18, 15-12.
The Scouts came back after losing the first two sets and winning the third set in extra points. The win was a total team effort, with kills, blocks and aces distributed across the Scout squad.
Husky senior Emma Chandler had 13 of Absarokee’s 34 kills and four of the team’s seven blocks. Senior Emma LaMoure had six of the Huskies’ 13 aces.
The Husky backcourt hustled to keep up with a barrage of hits from the Scouts. Junior Erin Campbell posted 30 of the team’s 147 digs, and senior Makayla Peterson had 28.
For the Scouts, senior Maddie Scianna posted five kills, two aces and two blocks. Her sister, sophomore Sylvia Scianna, had four kills and two blocks.
Dominating the net were freshman Desiree Scott with five kills and nine blocks and senior Kerrigan Bemis with seven kills and one ace. Senior Kayla Cummings posted 23 of the team’s 28 assists.
The Huskies easily dropped the visiting Roberts Rockets two nights earlier on Oct. 22 during Senior Night, 25-15, 25-14, 25-21.
Absarokee’s offense overwhelmed the younger Roberts team with 17 kills to 12 and 18 aces to eight. Chandler had seven kills and nine aces. Senior Colleen Culbertson had seven of the team’s 14 assists and the Huskies’ lone block.
Brittany Prinkki, the Rockets’ only senior, led her team with five kills and four blocks. Sophomore Sarah Smith and freshman Meadow Smith each had three aces.
The Huskies ended the regular season 13-1 in conference and 18-4 overall. Next up is the Southern 4C district tournament in Absarokee on Oct. 29-31.
Absarokee will take on Plenty Coups (0-14) in their opening match on Thursday at 11:30 p.m., while Bridger (12-2) will play Roberts (2-12) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
The top four teams qualify for the Southern Divisional Tournament to be held at Laurel High School on Nov. 5-7.
