Journeys in Faith
I understand there is an “unwritten rule” that on Wednesday evenings after 6:30 p.m. there will be no scheduled Columbus School events so that kids can participate in both church and family activities.
I would like to enthusiastically thank our Columbus School District and Superintendent Jeff Bermes for protecting this valuable time!
Thank you also to the Columbus School Board, to our hard working teachers and coaches, as well as our school principals for shielding an important night.
I thought it might be interesting to see how many folks in Columbus participate in church activities on Wednesdays. After I called the Stillwater Youth Center and all nine of our Columbus churches, I was amazed to discover that more than 318 people participate on Wednesdays in youth groups, Bible studies, growth groups, children’s programs, and the like.
It is so nice to live in a community where families support our schools enthusiastically, and on the other hand where our schools support what other groups are doing to “train up our children in the way they should go” (Proverbs 22:6). After all, the best educations include not only the mind and body, but also the soul!
We villagers are on this journey in faith together and we shouldn’t expect the schools to be the only provider of education for our children.
In fact, well rounded educations will include the home, church and neighborhoods of our community surrounding the school buildings.
We appreciate you Columbus Schools! Thank you for allowing us all to attempt to live out Psalm 119:11.
