Helen Marie (Yates) Hudson of Absarokee passed away April 18, 2016, nine days before her 85th birthday. She passed away at the Beartooth Manor.
She was born April 27, 1930, in Columbus to Temple and Verta Yates the oldest of 11 children and lived on Fishtail Creek all her childhood.
Helen and her dad raised registered purebred Hereford cattle and Helen did all the paperwork for the registration of the cattle and she knew every cow by name.
She loved the ranch life and did everything from raking hay to stacking it, cleaning ditches to irrigating the fields and feeding, calving out cows.
In 1968 she married Gene Hudson and lived in Snoqualmie, Wash., until Gene retired and they moved to Absarokee. Gene and Helen liked to travel, going to Alaska, Hawaii, the East/West coasts, Nashville, Tenn., to the Grand Old Opry, Branson, Mo., before Gene’s passing in January 2012.
Helen loved working with her flowers and garden, giving away tomatoes and rhubarb. She worked with several young people showing them how to take care of her flowers and she appreciated their help so much.
She loved to fish and have family gatherings at her home. Helen was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary of Absarokee.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Gene, stepson Clay; brothers Temple and Donnie.
She is survived by Gene’s sons Gary and Keith; Keith’s four children, two grandchildren and one on the way. Sisters Laura of Missouri, Mary (Dean) of Rockvale, Alice of Bozeman, Betty of Utah, Judy (Lyle) of Fairfield; brothers Ralph (Lil) of Columbus, Art (Mayme) and Dennis of Fishtail, many nieces and nephews.
Memorials suggested to charity of choice.
Funeral services were held April 22, 2016, at the Absarokee Community Congregational Church. Burial will be in the Rosebud Cemetery.
