CHS drama team brings home sweepstakes trophy
The Columbus High Drama team stormed to an impressive start to the season, bringing home the Class B Drama sweepstakes trophy at the Belfry Invitational. Twenty teams were in attendance at the meet held on Nov. 5.
The Columbus speech team, with entries in only three out of nine events, still managed a second place finish in the sweepstakes.
Earning top points for the Drama team were humorous duo acting medalists Devin Livergood and Dalton Marjerison. Finishing a close second were the humorous duo of Josiah Forseth and Susan Carrel; duo Kadie Flemetis and Deseray Lynn were 6th.
Sarah Carrel was a strong second in humorous solo acting. Sisters Morgain and Kaleigh Baker rounded out points for Columbus with a second place finish in dramatic duo acting.
Bri Haskins had a stellar debut for the Columbus speech team with a win in Lincoln Douglas debate, winning all four rounds. Not to be out done, Josh Bowman earned first place finishes from all but one judge to win dramatic oral interpretation. Ironically, teammate Rourke Hanson, got the nod from the errant judge. Rourke finished second.
Columbus continues their competition season with a trip to Townsend on Nov. 20. Columbus will be hosting a home meet this year on Dec. 10. Community volunteers are needed to help judge numerous events.
Please contact Coach Johanna Kern at 861-8069 if you would like to volunteer.
