Is the state of Montana immune to human trafficking?
One never knows when a leadership role will be asked of you. On Oct. 8, 2014, at the Stillwater Republican Women monthly meeting, this opportunity was presented to me. Montana Federation of Republican Women, Debra Brown was our guest speaker. It was during this time that Debra asked if I would serve as chair for the “Caring for America” state project. My answer was yes.
Keep in mind that Paula Newkirk, member of SRW had served in this role for the past four years with successful projects Operation Foot Care (2011) and Montana Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence (2012-2013).
So, when I asked Debra what she had in mind her answer was “Human Trafficking.” A new meaning of “shopping locally” -- to gather information I contacted the county attorney and sheriff’s office. Next step was searching the website of Montana government.
To learn more go to www.dojmt.gov – there I found contact person and telephone number who can provide a presentation to our MTFRW groups.
This is an excerpt from the Montana Department of Justice website: “Human trafficking is the fastest-growing criminal industry in the world, generating about $150 billion each year. Shockingly, there are numerous cases nationally of children being used in prostitution as young as 12. The FBI estimates that nearly 300,000 American youths are at risk of becoming victims of commercial sexual exploitation.”
“We The People” should be outraged that this activity is happening in America. In fact, it makes me sick to the point of vomiting. I encourage you , the reader, to become an advocate. Please feel free to contact me (406-322-6151)for information as to when SRW will be having a presentation from the DOJ.
As individuals, we can all take a leadership role in stamping out human trafficking which is evil
According to my Webster’s Dictionary the word “evil” is an adjective (1) morally bad or wrong; wicked. I agree. What say you? God Bless America/In Liberty
