Dora Mae Cain Zimmerman, 91, of Billings, Mont., went home to be with her savior, Jesus, Wednesday Nov. 4, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Dora Mae was born Sept. 25, 1924, at the family homestead south of Reed Point, Mont., the sixth child of Samuel and Vivian Cain. She attended the country school at Kent Lake and graduated from Reed Point High School.
As a young woman, Dora Mae earned her teaching certificate from Eastern Normal School (now MSUB) in Billings. She worked at the orphanage in Twin Bridges and taught at the Leuthold and Saunders’ country schools.
She married her sweetheart, Virgil David Zimmerman, Feb. 16, 1947, in Columbus, Mont. After she was married, she devoted her life to her family first and then to her church family, Grace Bible Church, where she served in many different capacities. As a family they enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. When Virgil died in 1977, Dora Mae resumed teaching in the Title One program at the West School in Laurel. Because of health issues, she moved to the Vista in Billings in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Mark) Amunrud of Bozeman and their children Alana (Andrew) Sharp, Joel Amunrud, Larissa Amunrud; her daughter–in-law, Kathleen Zimmerman of Lewistown and her children, Kristi (J.P.) Widner, Teri (Dan) Gilmore, Sheri (Brian) Gunderson, and Luke (Sarah) Zimmerman, also her brother Samuel (Jeanette) Cain of Park City, Mont., plus numerous nieces and nephews, and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Virgil, and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ron Zimmerman; sisters: Maudie Vork and Viviette Daggett, and brothers: Glenn Cain, Bud Cain and Jim Cain. Memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church in Laurel or to Montana Bible College in Bozeman.
As her family we want to express our thanks to the staff at St. John’s for caring for her these last 12 years.
