Huskies beat Rebels

Absarokee’s first victory of the season came with seven touchdowns and nearly 600 yards of offense, as the Huskies routed the Shields Valley Rebels at home by 50-26 on Oct. 16.
Senior running back Calvin Hanson tore up the turf with 312 rushing yards on 32 plays, while pulling in five receptions for 109 yards.
Freshman quarterback Dylan Young was 13-for-26 with 246 passing yards. Young hit five different receivers, including junior Rily Livingston, who caught four passes for 71 yards.
Sophomore Kyle Kirby had two receptions for two yards, senior Bryce Olderman had one reception for 20 yards, and sophomore Jonas Williams had a 42-yard reception. Olderman also gained 43 yards on 12 runs.
“Offensively, freshman Dylan Young led the team well as quarterback, while Calvin Hanson ran the ball for more than 300 yards,” Absarokee head coach Chris Gunderson said. “A good win for the seniors on their Senior Night.”
Shields Valley’s running game kept up with Absarokee, with each team tallying 350 yards, but the Rebels were only 3-for-18 in passing with 64 yards in the air.
The Rebels also fumbled six times, losing the ball five times, while the Huskies lost the ball three times on fumbles.
“Defensively the team played well Friday with a good game from Robbie Coleman, Bryce Oderman, Calvin Hanson, and Gage McDonnell,” Gunderson said.
Hanson and sophomore Mikol Degele each posted nine solo tackles. Olderman and sophomore Roman Zugaza each had eight solo tackles, Williams had six, senior Gage McDonnell had four, junior Robbie Coleman had three, freshman Simon Hanson had two, and senior Cooper Crabtree had one.
The Rebels came to Absarokee with eight active players and three on the injured list. They were down to seven players for a time against the Huskies until an injured player could return to the field.
The Huskies are now 1-6 in conference, tied with Shields Valley. Next up for Absarokee is a conference game against the Panthers in Park City on Friday, Oct. 23.
