Lady Renegades beat Lady Huskies in cross-county matchup

Last Saturday night, two Stillwater County teams met up in the Absarokee High School gym – the Absarokee Lady Huskies and the Reed Point-Rapelje Lady Renegades.

The first quarter was tight, ending like it began – in a tie – only this time the score was 7-7. In the second, RPR began to pull ahead, and by halftime, the Renegades had a 17-11 lead. RPR continued to extend the lead throughout the second half, outscoring the Huskies by four points each quarter for a 35-21 victory.

Absarokee gets pair of conference wins

After losing a couple games, the Absarokee Huskies rebounded last weekend to add two conference wins.

Friday, Absarokee played the Roberts Rockets. The Husky offense was firing on all cylinders from opening tipoff, with the group going on a 22-1 run in the first quarter. The Rockets found more of a rhythm in the second, but were not able to make progress on the deficit; entering halftime, Absarokee had a 31-11 advantage.

The second half was closer, but the Huskies’ first quarter lead stood. At the end of the night, Absarokee won the game 62-32.

Wrestlers take second at Columbus Invitational

The Columbus-Absarokee-Park City wrestlers came within one point of winning the team’s home meet last Saturday, propelled by six first place finishes. The Couguskies finished the meet in second place with 172 points; first place Huntley Project ended the day with 173 points. The Red Devils were ranked in the top-10 statewide for Class B-C teams going into the meet. Columbus-Absarokee-Park City beat third place Billings Senior by 48.5 points. Cougusky senior Dylan Raihl took the top place in the 152-pound weight class with a perfect 10-0 performance last weekend.

Back from break, RPR picks up a win and a loss

The Reed Point-Rapelje Renegades put up mixed results in the first week back from winter break.

Last Friday, the Renegades faced the Roberts Lady Rockets in a close conference game.

RPR came out of the gates ready to roll, and after the first quarter, had a 12-7 lead. Roberts pushed back in the second, and the Renegades were barely able to hold onto the lead, up 17-16 at halftime.

The third quarter was tight, and entering the fourth, the game was tied at 21 points. The Rockets outlasted RPR in the final period to clinch the 31-29 win.

Renegades take out Rockets, fall to Pirates

The Reed Point-Rapelje Renegades came back from winter break last week with a bang against the Roberts Rockets on Friday.

RPR jumped to an early 14-8 lead, and by halftime, the Renegades were up 27-13. Coming out of the break, RPR almost doubled its score to add 22 points, while holding Roberts to six. The Rockets scored 20 in the final quarter, but the damage had already been done – the Renegades walked away with the 58-39 victory.

RPR senior Tristan Gieser led the team with 13 points, followed by juniors Ty Herzog and Daynon Bear with nine each.

Speech team takes third in Belfry

The Columbus speech and drama team was back at it in Belfry last weekend.

The long winter break did not seem to have affected the team members much – competing against 16 other Class B-C teams, 11 of the 12 Cougars that attended the meet made it to finals.

The speech team took third place, led by senior Susan Carrel with a first place finish in spontaneous oral interpretation and by junior McKayla Valdez, who won the informative speaking category.
