The Absarokee Huskies entered last week’s 4C District Volleyball Tournament as the third seed, and by the time it was all said and done, they worked their way up to earn the second spot in the district.

In first round play on Thursday morning, Absarokee faced the Custer-Hysham Rebels.  The Huskies came out of the locker room ready to play, and the team got an early lead and never let go, resisting a last-minute Rebel push, for the 25-17 set one victory.

Renegades go into district tourney as fourth seed

The Reed Point-Rapelje Renegades split the last two games of the season last week.

Last Friday, RPR played the very tough Bridger Scouts for the Reed Point Senior Night game. The Scout offense came out strong while the Renegades struggled to get going in the first game, as Bridger cruised to a 25-12 victory. RPR played better in the second set, falling 25-19, but the Scouts kept rolling to a 25-11 game three victory to win the match.

Cougars compete in state cross country meet

Last Saturday, cross country runners from across Montana converged on the University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula for the culmination of their sport’s season – the all-class state cross country meet.

Seven Columbus Cougar runners under Coach Paul Barta took part in the 5-kilometer race.

BOYS

With 607 points, the Columbus boys’ team finished 25th out of 27 teams. There were 180 participants in the Class B boys’ race.

RPR Renegades end season with a dominating win

The final two Stillwater County teams wrapped up the football season last Wednesday, Oct. 17.

REED POINT-RAPELJE

For the Renegades’ Senior Night game, RPR faced the Broadview-Lavina Pirates.

Broadview-Lavina received the opening kickoff, and the RPR defense held the Pirates to a quick four-and-out after forcing a turnover on downs. The Renegades’ first offensive play of the game resulted in a 20-yard touchdown pass from junior Lawson Steinfeldt to senior Rory Markle.

That touchdown was just the beginning for RPR.

With the regular football season winding down, it’s time to take a look at where the local Stillwater County football teams fall in regards to the postseason.

Above are the current standings for the Class B Southern Division. The top four teams will earn a position in the postseason.

Big Timber, Manhattan, and Broadwater have guaranteed their places in the postseason due to conference records and head-to-head wins.

Columbus beats Big Timber in four sets

The Columbus Cougars chalked up a victory last Thursday during homecoming week when the Big Timber Herders traveled to Columbus for a non-conference match-up.

The teams faced-off two weeks prior, and the Herders came out on top in four sets.

The Cougars fought for the 25-22 victory in the opening game, but the Herders came back for a 25-11 win in the second set. Columbus did not let the loss rattle the team, and the Cougars regained the momentum for 25-17 and 25-19 victories in the final two games of the match.

Panthers fall to Falcons

The Park City Panthers took a 200-mile drive last Friday to face the Twin Bridges Falcons.

The game started out slow for Park City. The Falcons were able to put up two touchdowns in the first quarter, while the Panthers failed to put any points on the scoreboard. Twin Bridges added another score before Park City sophomore Garrett Zimdars found the end zone on a 2-yard run. Another Falcon touchdown before half gave Twin Bridges the 28-6 lead going into the break.
