Huskies cruise past Engineers in first conference win

The Absarokee Huskies cruised to a win last week against the visiting Harlowton Engineers.

Absarokee was quick to score. A 2-yard touchdown run by sophomore Wyatt Hayes, followed by a 10-yard touchdown in the air from Hayes to junior Zacc Degele, put the Huskies up 14-0 by the time the Engineers were able to find an answer. A 48-yard Harlowton touchdown was answered by a 38-yard touchdown on the ground for Degele to put Absarokee up 22-6 by the end of the first quarter.

Panthers finish third at home tournament

The Park City Panthers finished out last weekend strong after an earlier non-conference loss.

Last Thursday, Park City traveled to Stanford to face the Denton-Geyser-Stanford (DGS) Bearcats for a non-conference match-up.

The Panthers came out strong and won the first set 25-16. The next three games, though, the Bearcats rallied to win 25-16, 25-18, and 25-17 to take the match victory.

RPR adds one win, two losses to conference record

On Tuesday, a cross-county match-up took place in Park City as the Reed Point-Rapelje Renegades took on the Park City Panthers.

The Panthers came out strong, winning the first game 25-14. The Renegades fought back in the second game, flipping the script for a 25-16 victory. Game three was hard fought, with Park City coming out on top 25-22. The Panthers held on for the 25-16 win in the fourth game and the match victory.

Renegades put up fight against Scouts

When the Reed Point-Rapelje Renegades traveled to Bridger last Thursday to play the Scouts, the team knew it would be a tough game. Not only were the Scouts ranked eighth in the state, but they were coming off a loss and Thursday was their homecoming night.

The Renegade defense came up with a big stop on fourth and short during Bridger’s first possession, and the RPR offense took full advantage of the opportunity. The Renegades marched down the field, taking the 6-0 lead off a 5-yard touchdown run by senior Rory Markle.

Renegades add conference win against Bats

The RPR Renegades chalked up a conference win last Saturday after defeating the Belfry Bats in three sets.

The first game was a battle, with RPR coming out on top 25-21. In the following games the Renegades settled in, winning 25-16 and 25-15 to take the match.

Junior Carlee Blodgett had a big game, leading RPR with 20 of the team’s 24 kills and two of the Renegades’ three blocks. Senior Jocelyn Ott had 23 of the 24 RPR assists. Freshman Kassidee Humphreys and senior Mercedes Hoff, contributed four and three aces, respectively.

Under the lights in Absarokee last Friday, two Stillwater County teams faced off in a cross-county showdown. The Park City Panthers were looking to extend their conference record to 2-0. The Absarokee Huskies were looking for their first win of the season.

Cougars beat Fillies in five to kick off conference play

The Columbus Cougars opened conference play on a high note last week, as the team held on to beat the Shepherd Fillies in five games.

When the two teams faced off in the preseason, Shepherd came out on top. Columbus was determined to flip the script, and the team dug deep to do just that. After a close 25-23 loss in the first game, the Cougars won the second game 25-20.

The Fillies took game three by the same score, 25-20, but Columbus forced a game five with a 25-14 win in the fourth game. The Cougars won game five 15-8 to take home the match victory.

Cougars stomp Spartans 41-6, shoot into state rankings

Last weekend, the Columbus Cougars accomplished something Cougar football teams have struggled to do for eight years – beat the Baker Spartans. Not only did Columbus come out on top last Friday, the win was a dominating 41-6 showing.

Columbus jumped to an early lead in the first quarter behind an 8-yard touchdown run by senior Nate Palmer. Later in the period senior quarterback Carson West connected with senior receiver Dylan Raihl for a 61-yard passing touchdown. Palmer ran in the conversion for a 14-0 Cougar lead at the end of the first period.
