2 Cougars bring home state track championship titles

Columbus High School Cougars Kelsey Plymale and Colby Martinez brought home state championships from the Class B state meet in Laurel last week.

Plymale, who is just a sophomore, won the 800 with a PR (personal record) of 2 hours, 64 seconds. She also was 5th in the 1600 with a time of 5:33.04.

Junior Colby Martinez won the long jump champion with a jump of 21-feet, 4-inches. Martinez was also third in the 200-meters with a time of 22.75, a PR for him. Martinez was 10th in the 400-meters.

The following are results from state:

•The boys’ 4x100 relay team consisting of John Hanser, Cooper Cook, Garrett Meier and Martinez was third with a time of 44.09.

•The boys’ 4x400 relay team consisting of Hanser, John Plymale, Cook and Martinez was fourth with a time of 3:33.60.

•John Hanser was fifth in the 200-meters with a time of 22.95 (a PR) and sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 23.26.

•Mason Adams was seventh in the high jump with a jump of 6-feet.

•Mason Meier was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 141-02.

•Elias Vesbach was 10th in the 1600-meters and 13th in the 3200-meters.

•Garrett Meier was 12th in the pole vault with a jump of 11-feet.

•The girls’ 4x400 relay team consisting of Makenzie Sheils, Nancy Scarbro, Megan O’Reilly and Plymale was eighth.

•Kali Hood was ninth in shot put with a throw of 32-06.75.

•Makenzie Sheils was 14th in the 200-meters with a PR time of 27.70.
