On Nov. 16, 2022, Gary Allan Anderson was called home.

Gary was born on Oct. 5, 1940, in Sheridan, Wyo., to “Buzz” and Mable Anderson. After graduating high school in Columbus, he attended Montana State University in Bozeman and then transferred to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. There he met his first wife, Diana Watkkins, and had two daughters. They would later separate and Gary would re-marry his life partner, Vickie Parr and they would have two sons.

Gary served two years in the United States Marines out of Camp Pendleton, Calif. After serving, he returned to Texas where he ran a landscaping company. Years later, he would move back to Montana, the place he always called home.

Gary enjoyed the outdoors and loved taking evening drives to spot wildlife. His second passion in life in Montana was coaching his sons in baseball. Gary dedicated a great number of years to the baseball program in Columbus and built an additional field to the complex, which was named Anderson Field in his honor. Hundreds of children have enjoyed this field to include his own children and grandchildren.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents Buzz and Mable, his two brothers, Bjarne and Doug, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary is survived by his wife Vickie; daughters Amy (George) Hoogeveen and Ashlee(Kevin) Massie; sons Cactus (Niki) Anderson and Cache (Amanda) Anderson and 12 grandchildren.

At Gary’s request, there will be no service. A family burial will be had at a later date.
