Arthur “Art” Evans

Aug. 1, 1939 — July 16, 2020

Arthur “Art” Aldan Evans passed away peacefully on July 16, 2020, in Absarokee, Mont., at the age of 80.

He was born Aug. 1, 1939, in a nursing home in Lakewood, Colo., to Charles and Violet (Edwards) Evans. They continued to live in Lakewood until they moved to Adams City, Colo., when he was 15-years-old. Unbeknownst to him at the time, they moved into a house neighboring his future wife, Shirley Elizabeth Lehman, who was then 13-years-old. The bond they possessed was immediate and will never be matched.

At age 17, Art joined the United States Navy while Shirley finished and graduated from Adams City High School. They got married June 14, 1959, when Art was 19-years-old and Shirley was 17-years-old, and moved to San Diego, Calif. In 1960, a year after he was discharged from the Navy, they moved back to Colorado where they raised their two beautiful daughters, Pennie and Sherry.

For more than 25 years, Art worked with various types of tile and was the talented owner of his own tile company. He was active in the Elks Lodge for 27 years and was a lifetime member of VFW POST 7311. He was quite the outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

He took pride in his 1948 Willys Jeep, which is still in the family’s possession to this day.

After Art and Shirley retired, they finally settled in Absarokee, Mont., where they lived on Butcher Creek Road for 13 years. In his later years, he enjoyed eating lunch at the Cowboy Bar and Supper Club in Fishtail, Mont., (and adored the ladies that waited on him), a McDonald’s cheeseburger and milkshake, a “half cup of coffee,” an afternoon nap, and hosting family barbecues in the summertime.

Art’s greatest joys in life were his family and friends.

Art is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley; daughters, Pennie (Ric) Harcsa and Sherry Doerschel (Frank Clouse); brother, Bob (Jeanie) Evans; sister, Marilyn Pendland; grandchildren, Harmonie (Jason) Harcsa-Segura, Shasta (Shane) Jensen, Drew Harcsa (Jana DeSaveur), Kristie (Rusty) Bower, Chantel (Charlie) Lohof, and Heather Milton (Jared Smith) and his many great-grandchildren, Dykoda, Chyann, Haley, Tymber, Rowdy, Violet, Gauge, Dylan, Alyssa, Gracie, Audrie, and Theodore.

Art is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Violet Evans; brothers, Jerry Evans and Edwin “Pete” Evans, and sister, Betty Lou Pendland.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020, at the Rosebud Cemetery in Absarokee, Mont. Condolences for the family may be shared at
