It’s back.

After closing its doors approximately a year ago, Rapelje’s Stockman Café is back in business.

“The community needed a gathering place,” said Rapelje Rancher Don Herzog, who is a member of the Lake Basin Seniors Inc. group largely responsible for the eateries return.

The doors opened on Dec. 8 following a load of work, determination and a lot of community support. The first step was the formation of the

The first step was the formation of the Lake Basin Seniors Inc. — a group comprised of approximately 36 members who hail from the area. The next step was to file for a non-profit status. The building was then purchased for $1 and fundraising began. Coming in a timely fashion was a $5,000 community grant last September. (That grant money came from a $40,000 fund that was originally intended to use to create “welcome rock” signs in each community. Stillwater County commissioners re-thought that and decided to let each community use the money as it sees fit).

The interior and exterior of the building were also remodeled..

The biggest challenge, Herzog said, has been getting staff. Specifically, a cook.

Herzog said the food will be good and it will be reasonably priced.

“We try to please,” said Herzog, adding that alcohol can be brought in by patrons.

The cafe’s Facebook page this week reads as follows:

This week’s special for Wednesday will be a choice of either hot meatloaf sandwiches with mashed potatoes or beef stroganoff.

Saturday’s special will be chili with a choice of a BLT or grilled cheese. Come in and say howdy!

On Sunday we will serve a fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cornbread and golden cake with an amazing chocolate frosting. Don’t miss it! The cake alone is reason enough for me to show up.

We have a new announcement! On Wednesday evenings we are going to change things up! The usual lunch special will be served and in the evening we are going to start a bingo night! On a normal bingo night we will close down the grill and serve things bar style. Examples would be....a taco bar, a baked potato bar, a soup bar, a burger bar and the like. (We’re always open to suggestions!) Also, we hope to offer something to satisfy your sweet tooth! There has been a lot of excitement about this new idea. Bingo night will start on the 12th of this month.

During January and February we will be open until 7 p.m. on Saturdays when the school has home games. We will be cooking off the menu. This month’s dates for the home games are the 8th and the 15th.

Again, here are the January hours for the Lake Basin Senior Center/Stockman Cafe.

Wednesday – 11 a.m. till bingo ends! (Remember, the 12th will be our first bingo night.)

Saturday – 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., but this week we will be open until 7 p.m. for the home game.

Sunday – 11a.m. – 3 p.m.

See you at the Stockman!
