Benito Valenzuela passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Aug. 25, with his wife by his side. He was 67.

Benito enjoyed hunting, camping, and drinking coffee on the porch. He was a lifelong miner working in New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, and Montana, until his retirement in 2015.

Benito is survived by his wife of 40 years, Louella; his children Valerie (Tyrone) Wright, of New Harmony, Ind.; Felipe (Kristi) Sanchez of Paonia, Colo.; Rosemary (Robin) Wright of Murphy, N.C.; and Margaret Valenzuela (Rick Lange) of Absarokee, Mont.; his grandchildren Tyler, Ashlynn, Alex, Kyle, Wyatt, Ty, Tristan, and Hunter; his adopted son Floyd Jackson; his mother-in-law Petra Marez of Grants, N.M.; his mother Teodorita Zamora of Magdalena, N.M.; and his siblings Amelia, Jimmy, Maria, Ralph, and Johnny of Magdalena, N.M.

Benito is preceded in death by his father-in-law Emilio Marez and brother-in-law Gilbert Marez, both of Grants, N.M.; his father Narciso Zamora, his brothers Lerch and Johnny Valenzuela, and his stepfather and stepmother Tony and Sofia Ortero, all of Magdalena, N.M.

Services will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Absarokee on this Friday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m. followed by a luncheon.
