June 22, 1936 – July 2, 2020

Charles M. Handley “Mick”, 84, of Absarokee, Mont., passed July 2, 2020, at his home surrounded by family and friends.

He was born June 22, 1936, at Lee Summit, Mo., to Robert and Columbia Jane (Ruff) Handley, the youngest of 13 of the Handley-Morrison families. He grew up in Lodge Grass, Mont.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1954, serving in Korea.

After his discharge in 1958, he went back to the ranch for a time and then to Olathe, Kan., for work. He retired in 1999 from the county being a heavy equipment operator.

He and his wife Betty then moved to Absarokee, Mont.

Mick was a member of I m m a n u e l L u t h e r a n Church, Beartooth VFW #7311, Absarokee Cancer Support Group, Lions Club, Civic Club and anything else that needed help until his health started deteriorating. He also did a lot of woodworking being noted for his crosses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 12 of his siblings, several nieces and nephews and one daughter-in-law.

He is survived by sister Roberta Meyers; wife Betty; sons Michael (Robin), Duane (Denise), Charles (Susie), Vern (Renee), Don, Ron (Annie) and daughter Deb (Randy, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and a host of friends. Also cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held July 10, 2020, at the Absarokee High School football field with military honors. Burial was at the R o s e b u d C e m e t e r y i n Absarokee, Mont.
