The Columbus School District did not waste any time jumping into the remodel and expansion projects slated for all three buildings in the coming years.

Last Friday, soon after the students left the high school for the final time this year, workers filed in to begin the first phase of the high school/middle school project – the kitchen remodel.

Slated to last from June through August, the kitchen remodel and expansion will ensure there is enough space for food preparation, as well as updated equipment.

On Monday, the portion of Third Street across from the elementary playground was closed indefinitely and the dismantling of playground equipment began.

The first phase of the elementary school project began with the demolition of houses on school property across from the school and is scheduled to last until the end of November. During this phase, an addition to the building will be constructed at the south end of the lot, where the playground equipment was located. A new playground area will be fenced off for the students once school begins.

Dick Anderson Construction has been contracted for the project.

There is a “construction project” link on the school website that contains an overview of the projects, as well as a timeline. Project updates can be found at
