Last Saturday, 17 teams braved icy roads to compete in the Columbus Invitational speech and drama meet.

The hometown Cougars worked hard, with 16 of the 22 competitors performing well enough during the regular rounds to advance to finals.

DRAMA

The Columbus drama team earned second place out of Class B teams at the meet.

The dramatic duo team of senior Ashton Zwetzig and sophomore Lana Summers finished the day in second place. Another Columbus team earned second place for drama – the classical team of sophomores Shelby Knudsen and Leslie Richardson.

Sophomores Maxine Jess and Jacob Jones had a fifth place finish in dramatic duo, and junior Kylie Ward earned sixth in pantomime.

The classical duo team, made up of freshmen Zoe Mentzes and Caydence Martin, finished in sixth place.

SPEECH

The Cougar speech team took third for Class B at last week’s competition.

For the second week in a row, senior Adrian Cook took home first place in memorized public address. Senior Kolton Gladney followed with a third place finish in the same event.

In informative speaking, junior McKayla Valdez finished fourth.

Senior Susan Carrel earned fourth in spontaneous oral interpretation, and sophomore Izzabella Carlson also competed in SPOI, finishing in seventh place.

Sophomore Keelie O’Reilly got fourth in humorous oral interpretation. In the same event, sophomore Avery Rager earned eighth place.

THANKS TO COMMUNITY

Columbus speech and drama coach Johanna Kern thanked the community for its support during last weekend’s home meet. She said all the volunteers – from those judging to those helping in the hospitality room – did a great job.

Members of the Columbus Booster Club, Beartooth Ford, and A and J Reality helped with the hospitality room, and members of the community volunteered to judge all of the events throughout the day.

NEXT MEET

The Columbus speech and drama team will take this weekend off and get back to business the following weekend with a meet in Roundup on Dec. 1.
