Commission, county school super. forum this Friday

Thursday, May 12, 2022

Stillwater County commission and school superintendent candidates will appear at a forum Friday night in Absarokee hosted by the Absarokee Civic Club.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Cobblestone Building. This is a non-partisan style forum that the Absarokee Civic Club has conducted for primary and general elections since 2008.

These two races will be decided at the June 7 Primary Election, as all candidates running are running as Republicans.

Participating will be commissioner candidates Jeff Ruffatto and Ron Van Hoosear and School Superintendent candidates John Smith and Mark Ranstrom. Candidates will be asked prepared questions with timed responses. Audience members will also be allowed to ask questions following the prepared questions portion.

Candidates from other races have been invited to attend, but will only be introduced and allowed to make a short statement.

Fiona Nave and Tommy Flanagan are vying for House District 57, which is currently held by Nave. That race will advance to the General Election as Nave is a Republican and Flanagan is a Democrat.

The Absarokee Civic Club will hold another forum prior to the General Election.

Absentee ballots will be mailed from the Clerk & Recorder’s Office on May 13. Clerk & Recorder Heidi Stadel asked that voters be prepared and bring identification to the polls.

“And if you are not already registered, try to same-day register prior to election day, should the pending injunction get lifted. If the pending injunction is lifted, sameday registration will not be allowed on election day,” said Stadel.
