The Columbus-Absarokee-Park City (CAPC) wrestling team had another big second place finish at the Class B-C Duals last weekend.

The two-day meet, hosted by Great Falls Central, featured 16 of the state’s 45 Class B-C teams. Five of the top 10 Class B teams and one of the top three Class C teams were present.

Following the CAPC second place finish at Choteau, the Couguskies jumped into the number six spot for the Class B team rankings in the coaches’ poll entering last week’s competition.

At the B-C Duals, CAPC had to face third-ranked Eureka in the semifinal round. The Couguskies came out on top, 36-30, to advance to the championship.

The fight for first place was a matchup between familiar rivals – CAPC faced the fourth-ranked Huntley Project Red Devils. Huntley came out on top, 40-34.

In last week’s coaches’ poll, three individual Couguskies were named in the statewide ranks. Freshman Weston Timberman was second for the 103-pound weight class. Also ranked second was Dylan Raihl, a senior, for his 152-pound category. Junior Carter Beer made his first appearance on the statewide rankings this year at sixth place in the 285-pound class.

CAPC will wrap up the regular season with back-to-back meets this weekend. On Friday, the Couguskies will wrestle in the Huntley Duals. Saturday, the team will travel to Hardin for the Battle on the Bighorn.

The postseason kicks off the following weekend with the divisional tournament in Townsend on Feb. 2.
