The Columbus-Absarokee-Park City (CAPC) wrestlers stepped onto the mats last Saturday in Townsend ready to compete. And compete they did – all the way to the top of the podium at the Class B-C Southern Divisional Tournament.

The Couguskies put up 221 team points to take first place, beating second place Townsend by 40.5 points. Ten CAPC wrestlers finished in the top four of their weight class, automatically earning a state tournament berth.

Three Couguskies won their weight classes: freshman Weston Timberman (103-lbs.), junior Tanner Cook (113-lbs.), and senior Dylan Raihl (152-lbs.).

Freshman Cooper Cook (120-lbs.), sophomore Peyton Baumgartner (126-lbs.), and junior Carter Beer (285-lbs.) all fought for second place finishes.

Third place hardware was taken home by four CAPC wrestlers: freshman Brady Ellison (113-lbs.), senior Colton Getz (145-lbs.), junior Keegan Goddard (182-lbs.), and senior Kade Pendill (285-lbs.).

Three Couguskies finished divisionals in fifth place, making them first alternates for the state tournament. Senior Clay Haverland (132-lbs.), junior Brent Kelly (138-lbs.), and senior Nathan Hollar (145-lbs.) fell into this group.

Also competing at the divisional tournament were senior Joe Carlson (132-lbs.), freshman Colby Coleman (152-lbs.), and sophomore Dominic Fitch (160-lbs.).

Entering the divisional tournament, the Couguskies were ranked fourth in the state as a team. Five individual CAPC wrestlers were also on the statewide rankings – Timberman (2nd), Tanner Cook (1st), Cooper Cook (4th), Raihl (2nd), and Beer (6th).
