There is a whole lot of holiday fun going on in Columbus and Park City this weekend.

The 2nd Annual Christmas Festival in Columbus is this Friday, Dec. 10, and features a Holiday Home Decorating Contest, free pictures with Santa from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., a gingerbread house building contest and the Parade of Lights. Additionally, 15 businesses will be open extended hours during festivities.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, the Park City Christmas Parade will take place in conjunction with the Park City PTA Christmas Extravaganza.

And on Sunday, Dec. 12, it’s the hugely popular Project Hope Kids Shopping Day at the county fairgrounds in Columbus.

FRIDAY - DEC. 10

GINGERBREAD HOUSE CONTEST

All gingerbread house entries must be dropped off at the courthouse lawn by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10. There will be a table set up on the courthouse lawn that will be signed. Contestants can leave their gingerbread house on that table to be judged.

“We will have someone manning the table to get names of the contestants,” said Stephanie Ray, the county economic development director and chamber of commerce board member.

There are two age categories — Youth (8 to 17) and Family (parents and children under 18) with prizes awarded to the top three in each category.

PARADE OF LIGHTS

This year’s theme is “Take A Stroll Through Candy Cane Lane” and it will begin at 7 p.m. 18 entries were signed up by Wednesday morning. The parade is sponsored by the Stillwater County Chamber of Commerce. The traditional chili feed will again take place at Beartooth Ford and serve as a fundraiser for the Backpacks for Kids program.

COURTHOUSE

Santa will be stationed on the courthouse grounds and in front of the Norton House for photos. Also at the courthouse will be a food truck, hot chocolate, and hot cider, a little fire pit, music, and lights, said Ray.

PARADE OF HOMES HOLIDAY HOME DECORATING CONTEST

Fifteen homes are competing in this Columbus Community Foundation contest. A map and listing of the homes can be found in today’s News as an insert. Voting will take place from Dec. 10 through Dec. 27.

SATURDAY - DEC. 11

PARK CITY CHRISTMAS PARADE

The Park City Fire Auxiliary will hold its Christmas Parade at 5 p.m. Santa will be at the Park City Fire Department from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. for photos.

During the parade, the Park City PTA Christmas Extravaganza will take place, which will include raffle prizes. The school will be offering complimentary soup and hot drinks and student art works will be on display.
