            Wayne K. Krueger

Wayne K. Krueger passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, surrounded by his children. He was 90 years old.

Wayne was born Oct. 8, 1928, to Harry and Mildred Krueger at the old Harsha place on Countryman Creek Road. Wayne was seventh of eight children.

He was the last “old-timer” from original homestead families that lived on Countryman Creek Road. He attended country school through the 8th grade, then Columbus High School. Wayne lived with a family during the week for school and at the ranch on the weekends. After graduating from Columbus High School, Wayne joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served for three years. While on leave, he met Evelyn Rowley. After his discharge, Wayne returned to Montana and married Evelyn on Dec. 14, 1949. They were blessed with three children, Steve, Joyce and Jan.

The ranch where Wayne and Evelyn lived was homesteaded in 1917 by Wayne’s father, Harry. Wayne purchased the ranch upon his father’s death and he and Evelyn continued to build the ranch over the years by acquiring parcels as they became available.

Wayne learned to fly under the GI Bill, becoming a certified pilot. Wayne loved to fly and used his plane to work the ranch as well as for pleasure.

Wayne and Evelyn were members of the Flying Farmers and Ranchers, often taking off to attend fly-ins around the country. Wayne and Evelyn also enjoyed fishing, camping, touring by motorcycle and snowmobiling.

After retirement, Wayne and Evelyn spent winters in Arizona, sometimes touring the country in their motor coach before finally arriving in Yuma. Wayne also enjoyed 4-wheeling and floating the rivers with his daughters.

Wayne is survived by his three children, Steve, Joyce and Jan, as well as grandchildren Tom, Tim, Jessica and Mylissa Krueger and five great-grandchildren. Wayne is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn, his parents, seven brothers and sisters and grandson, Scott Richards.

The family wishes to offer a special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Billings Clinic and Hospital for all their care and concern for Wayne.

Wayne’s cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at the Evangelical Church, 7 South Park in Reed Point, Mont., with a reception to follow. Interment will be held at the Krueger Ranch in the spring.

Remembrances can be made to the Reed Point Volunteer Fire Department, 1 Second Ave. N. Reed Point, MT 59069 or the charity of one’s choice.
