Mary Jeanette (Peterson) Hamel passed away Dec. 12, 2021, at Shipps Assisted Living from complications of pneumonia due to COPD.

Mary was born April 28, 1935, in Reed Point to Melvin and Doris Peterson. She graduated from Big Timber High School in 1952. On June 10, 1957, she earned her bachelor of science in Nursing. She then became a professor, where she taught her mom to become a LPN. She was a nurse for numerous years, which included being a travel and hospice nurse.

Mary loved to work in her garden. She enjoyed being in Kruzin’ for Seniors. She also loved to drink coffee and visit with her dearest family and friends.

Mary is survived by her four kids: Scott (Georgi) Hamel of Absarokee, Mont.; Mark (Barb) Hamel of Dewey, Ariz.; Dale (Kathy) Hamel of Fredericktown, Miss. and Suzie (Lee) Campbell of Absarokee, Mont.; Sister-inlaw Louise Peterson.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Doris Peterson, her brother Mel Peterson, and her grandson Andrew Campbell.

Mary’s 18 grandkids and 34 great grandkids were the joy of her life.

Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. on Jan. 8, 2022, at Grace Fellowship Church in Absarokee, Mont., with luncheon to follow. Interment will be at Reed Point Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Kruzin’ for Seniors, Absarokee Senior Center, or one of your choice.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Shipps Assisted Living and the Health Care team who took care of Mary.
