Barbara Ann Nusbaum

Barbara Ann Sedlmayer Nusbaum, 80, of Absarokee, Mont., peacefully passed to be with the Lord at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at 1:30 a.m. surrounded by her family. She is now in God’s hands, glowing in his presence, as she did in life.

Born Sept. 6, 1942, in Payette, Idaho, the daughter of George and Mary Sedlmayer, Barb was the youngest of three siblings. On July 30, 1966, she married Ronald C. Nusbaum, of Gettysburg, Pa., who survives.

She graduated with a double Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from Marylhurst University in Oregon and received a teaching endorsement from the College of Idaho at Caldwell.

She taught elementary students in Maryland and Virginia while starting her family. She moved to Colorado in 1975 with her husband and two children.

In 1992, she moved to Montana with her husband to enjoy retirement. An avid newspaper reader and experienced with press printers, she went to the Stillwater County Newspaper to help proofread and familiarize herself with her new community. She was known for her grace and wisdom.

After leaving the newspaper office, she worked tirelessly with preschoolers and beginning elementary students with the Absarokee School District and Cobblestone School for more than two decades.

She volunteered her time and energy to our brightest young learners, St. Michael’s parish, Red Hats and Project HOPE. She created beautiful quilts, crocheted blankets, and always remembered others for their special occasions. She was devoted to being the “Apple” Grandma to her grandchildren and a grandmother figure to countless others.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, George (Helen) Sedlmayer, and Rosemary (Phil) Galluzzo, nephew George Galluzzo, and many beloved family members.

She is survived by her children, Ron J. (Darcy Smith) Nusbaum of Absarokee, Mont. and Rosemary T. Calvert of Longmont, Colo.; Grandchildren, Shannon, ShelbyAnn, and Sophia Calvert of Longmont, Colo., Dakota Smith of Billings, Mont., Sarina Nusbaum and Camilla Nusbaum of Absarokee, Mont.; Sisters-in-law Charlotte Nusbaum Grippi and Cindy Nusbaum Gilchris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Absarokee, Mont.

Reception and fellowship afterward. Interment will be completed at the Yellowstone National Cemetery, 55 Buffalo Trail Road, Laurel, MT, at a later date to be determined.
