Beloved Christa Ostoj, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 24, 2022.

Christa was born on Sept. 9, 1941, in Wolnzach Markt, Germany. She was the daughter of Franz and Franziska Schneider. She went to school and lived in Germany until moving to the US in her 20s.

Christa met the love of her life, Peter J Ostoj, Jim, over 50 years ago in Nevada and was a dedicated miner’s wife. Jim started his mining career in Butte, Mont., and then traveled to Nevada and finally Pinehurst, Idaho where they settled for 15 years in their first home. Mining took them to Kingston and Coeur d’Alene Idaho before coming to their final home in Absarokee, Mont., where they lived out the rest of their lives together.

Jim preceded his wife in death in 2019. Christa is survived by her two daughters, Diana Frances of Germany and Ruby Jean and her hus band Travis of Oregon. She is also survived by two stepchildren from her husband, Shawn and Holly. Christa has 8 grandchildren, Yvonne and Michael from her daughter Diana, Joel from her daughter Ruby, followed by Rebekah and Hanna from Shawn and Adam, Aaron, and Alex from Holly. There are also 4 great grandchildren, David and Brian from Yvonne and Nicholas and Johanna from Michael. Christa is also survived by her only sister’s daughter Christina of Maine.

Christa was an avid gardener and always looked forward to the seed catalogues coming in the mail when winter was at it’s harshest. Easter was her favorite holiday as it brought the promise of spring and gardening where she was happiest. She was an accomplished cook, loved feeding the deer, birds, and even the neighbors cats. If you would ask her family, friends and close neighbors, they would tell you she was one of a kind, thoughtful, and generous and this is the memory she will leave within our hearts!
