What started as a report of people leaving a Columbus grocery store with two shopping carts of unpaid items ended on Rapelje Road in the arrest of wanted man who was in possession of a stolen Uhaul trailer.

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 10:25 a.m., Columbus police department, Stillwater County Sheriff’s deputies and MHP were called to the Columbus IGA and Family Pharmacy when the store reported that two men walked out without paying for two shopping carts full of groceries, according to Stillwater County Sheriff Office dispatch records. The men were last seen driving west and were with one woman with pink hair “and piercings all over her face.”

The trio was stopped on Hersrud Road and all three suspects were detained. The U-Haul was impounded and later determined to have been stolen in Billings.

Chaz Alan Wilks of Billings was arrested on multiple charges including theft, contempt of court, a warrant and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and remains in the Yellowstone County Detention Facility with bond set at $12,500. Undersheriff Randy Smith said the warrant was for felony assault with a weapon.

The other two suspects were cited with theft and released.
