Columbus resident Devon Pinkal during his time as a U.S. Marine overseas. (Beartooth Beanery photo)

It is commonly said that there is no such thing as a former United States Marine.

Once a Marine — always a Marine.

That is one of the reasons that the deaths of 13 U.S. Marines in Afghanistan killed in the explosion at the Hamid Karzai International Airport last week hit close to home for a local family.

Devon Pinkal — who served overseas as a U.S. Marine — and his wife, Heather Meier, own the Beartooth Beanery in Columbus. The couple announced on Facebook Tuesday that they would be donating 13 percent of all sales in September to the Veteran’s Hospital in Billings.

The Facebook post was as follows:

This is my husband and co-owner of The Beartooth Beanery during his time over seas. He is a proud former United States Marine, and we are sure proud of him!

In honor of the 13 service members lost this last week we will be donating 13 percent of every daily sales total for the month of September to The Veterans Hospital in Billings.

Thank you to all service members for your sacrifices past and present. You are appreciated beyond words.
