A.B. (Buzz) Stimpson, 84 of Rapelje, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 28, 2020.

Buzz was born Sept. 2, 1935, to Mattie (Shy) and Elmer Stimpson in Hardin, Mont. Buzz was the 11th of 12 children. Soon after Elmer’s death in 1938, the family moved to Fishtail. Buzz graduated high school at Absarokee in 1954. On July 15, 1955, he and Joyce Ostrum were united in marriage at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Absarokee. They started their married life together at the Anderson-Logan Ranch locat ed between Roscoe and Fishtail.

In 1957 they leased the Tuttle Place near Absarokee, where they ran sheep and milked several cows. In 1962 they moved to the Weppler Ranch near Ryegate, where Buzz worked until he went to work for a much-admired Sewell Hines on the Hines Ranch in 1965.

Buzz and Joyce always dreamed of owning their own ranch, and with grit and determination they did just that. While still running the Hines Ranch they purchased the Linder Ranch between Rapelje and Big Timber. They then leased the Hines Ranch making that their home from 1965 to 2014.

Buzz built a high-quality commercial cow herd selling market-topping feeder cattle and also high-quality bred heifers. Buzz was an avid horseman, and could find the good in even the “bad ones.”

When Buzz decided to slow down, their son, Clint, took over the operation of the ranches and Buzz and Joyce moved closer to Rapelje on some acreage where Buzz continued to put up hay in the summer and kept busy with a small herd of goats. Joyce’s health began to decline in 2019 and Buzz’s main concern became doing what was best for her health and happiness. He was by her side until her death on Feb. 11, 2020. The good Lord knew they were meant to be together, so on Feb. 28, 2020, they were joined together once more. Buzz was a gentleman, a cattleman, a horseman, and a loving family man.

Survivors include son Clint (Julia) Stimpson of Rapelje; daughters Val (Steve) Wadhams of Mitchell, Neb. and Wendy (Don) Ray of Park City; sisters Mabel(Dave) Stubbe of Littleton, Colo.,, and Cora Lee (Bud) Carlsen of Stone Mountain, Ga.; six grandchildren — Chasity (Larry) Broadbrooks, Lacey Hauge - Stimps on, Abby (Trent) Humphrey, and Aaron Wadhams and six greatgrandchildren — Eli and West on Broadbrooks , Hayden and Harlo Hauge, Taylin and Tinlee Humphrey and several nieces and nephews.
