Robert Charles Hardy, loving father, son, brother and friend, passed away on Oct. 13, 2018, at the age of 57.

Robert was born on June 8, 1961, in Columbus, Mont., to Frederick and Marjorie (Kem) Hardy.  After graduating from Columbus High School, Robert joined the Army and served his country proudly as a military policeman within the United States and abroad.

Robert had a passion for learning and continued his education as machinist.  He was an activist for veterans and spent much of his life advocating for and counseling struggling veterans.  Robert maintained a deep and abiding love for Montana throughout his life returning whenever he could.  He was known for his quick wit, direct speech and helping hand.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie.

He is survived by his son Zachary Hardy, his father Frederick Hardy, sister Debbie (Bob) Meyer, nephew Jason and nieces Caitlin and Mariah.

A graveside service will be held at the Yellowstone National Military Cemetery in Laurel, Mont., on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at noon.

First Step House has a long history of helping veterans recover from stressful experiences encountered during military service including substance use disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression among other conditions.
