The Columbus High School speech and drama team travelled to Big Timber last Saturday, Dec. 14, to an invitational tournament stocked with Southern division rivals. The CHS drama team performed consistently well and received second place in the class B sweepstakes. Columbus speech competitors held their own, but lacked the numbers necessary to place in the sweeps.

Columbus also showed strength in classical theater and dramatic theater. Leslie Richardson and Shelby Knudsen were second in classical, and teammates Jonathan McDonald and Taylor Brumfield finished fifth in classical.

The dramatic theater duo of Caydence Martin and Celestina Anderson were second, with Maxine Jess and Lana Summers finishing fourth in the event. Columbus was represented in pantomime finals by Aidyn McKenzie, who finished sixth.

Finalists in speech for Columbus were, Zoey Browne, who finished sixth in Dramatic Oral interpretation, and Gage Conat, who finished seventh in original oratory.

Columbus competes next in Belfry, on Jan. 4. Columbus will be hosting the Class B/C Divisional Tournament on Jan. 25. If you would like to volunteer as a judge or in hospitality, please contact the Columbus High secretary.
