The body of a man found partially concealed behind the Park City Post Office early Wednesday morning, Jan. 8, has been determined to be that of a 52-year-old Park City resident Steven Ronald Thompson, who committed suicide.

An autopsy performed Thursday, Jan. 9,  along with evidence collected at the scene, led investigators to that conclusion.

Stillwater County Sheriff Chip Kem said the death was initially considered suspicious because the man was partially concealed.

The manner of death was by firearm, which was recovered. Kem did not immediately know what the time of death had been determined to be.Thompson’s father in Butte was notified.

Kem thanked the Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigations for its assistance with the investigation.

“Their rapid response to the scene helped confirm our findings quickly,” Kem said in the press release.

Law enforcement was called to the scene at 7:06 a.m. following a 911 call from a U.S. Postal employee regarding a partially concealed body behind the Park City Post Office.

The area was deemed a crime scene, with the area of Clark Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue blocked off.

The post office and the school were both accessible.
