Juvenile sex offender in trouble again

Youth Court

An 18-year-old boy with a history of sexual assaults appeared in district court last week, handcuffed and shackled, and denied violating the terms of his probation.

The boy turned 18 last month and has been in the Youth Court system for approximately five years. Prosecutors alleged he is in violation of his probation because he has been kicked out of sex offender treatment, and had a “fairly violent altercation” with a family member, said Stillwater County Attorney Nancy Rohde.

Womens’ self-defense classes in Absarokee March 23 and 24

Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Billings will be coming to Absarokee at the end of March to put on two self-defense courses. On Friday, March 23, a two-hour class will be held in the Absarokee Elementary School gym. A longer, six-hour course will take place on Saturday, March 24. The program is designed for women and girls, and the classes will focus on self-defense and self-awareness training. There is a cost for the program based on the number of participants. To sign up, contact Kristi in the Absarokee High School office at 328-4583.

The Columbus Police Department, Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Highway Patrol responded to 162 calls for service during the seven days listed below. The following is a representation of some of those calls:

MONDAY – FEB. 26

•A 911 medical emergency occurred at 9 a.m. in Laurel involving a 58-year-old man experiencing chest pains and left arm pain. Park City was not able to respond, so Columbus Fire Rescue (CFR) did and took the man to a Billings hospital.

March didn’t come in like a lion.

It came in like an angry wolverine with a migraine.

The powerful storm that swept the area starting early Sunday left 13.5 inches of new snowfall in Rapelje by the early morning hours of Monday, March

5. Molt got a foot of new snow from the storm while Columbus received 10 inches, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Absarokee’s official snowfall total for that short time period was 6.5 inches, with Park City coming in at 8 inches.

Kidnapper who went on the lam twice jailed again

Convicted kidnapper Andrew M. Foster in being held on $50,000 after absconding from authorities for the second time.

Foster, 20, appeared in 22nd Judicial District Court last week, handcuffed and shackled, for an initial appearance on a new bail jumping charge, as well as a prosecutor’s motion to revoke the sentence from the kidnapping case.

Mammoth mountain snowpack

The record-setting snowfall has put the Upper Yellowstone River Basin at 166 percent of normal while the Lower Yellowstone River Basin is 126 percent of normal, according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

The Missouri, Upper Clark Fork and Sun/Teton, Marias basins are all currently more than 150 percent of normal.

Absarokee Little League season begins

Registration has started for Absarokee Little league. Registrations have been sent home to children who played last year. It is open to all children between the ages of 4 and

Chandler on Concordia Dean’s List

Absarokee’s Emma Chandler was named to the fall semester Dean’s Honor List at Concordia College, in Moorhead, Minn., according to a Concordia College press release.

To qualify for this designation, students must carry a minimum of 12 semester credits and have a grade point average of at least a 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.

Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering more than 50 majors, including 15 honors majors and 12 preprofessional programs.

County Business

The following business was conducted at this week's regularly scheduled Stillwater County Commissioners' agenda meeting:

STILLWATER RIVER ROAD ROCKSLIDE

The final project manual for phase two of the Stillwater River Road rockslide project was approved, and the county will proceed with the bidding process. Phase two includes bolting, netting, and signs for the rockfall area. Prior to the meeting, the manual was reviewed and approved by the Road Department, Disaster and Emergency Services, and the county attorney.
